Beavis and Butt-head (Game Gear) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Viacom New Media's 1994 license-based action game for the Sega Game Gear, Beavis and Butt-head.

Beavis and Butthead were enormously popular in the early/mid-1990s, so it's not a huge surprise that games featuring the halfwits showed up on most viable platforms of the time.

The Game Gear game plays like a simplified take on the SNES version. It's a platformer in which the pair are trying to earn enough money to buy tickets for the upcoming Gwar concert.

They have to make their way through the streets of Highland, the mall, the hospital, the high school, and Burger World. In each area, you've got to search random background items (trashbins, pay phones, lockers, and the like) for money.

You can also find or purchase food to refill your life, but be careful! If you overeat, you'll end up with a violent case of diarrhea... cha cha cha... accompanied by a classy cutscene showing the pairs' feet under a bathroom stall door.

The gameplay is servicable, much like the SNES game's, but it feels awkward and slow. You'll constantly get pegged by things like bird poo and scurrying rats, but you do get used to the lag in the controls, and once you do, they game becomes fairly easy to finish.

The best part of Beavis and Butt-head is its presentation. For a Game Gear game, this is amazing. The detailed character sprites are huge and they move smoothly, and full-screen cutscenes regularly pop up where you'll get to hear them drop several of their famous one-liners. There is an impressive amount of digitized speech in this game, and it sounds great.

If you liked Beavis and Butt-head, or simply wish to play a portable platformer that seems weirdly fixated on bowel movements, you might want to check this one out. If not, there's always the Zelda-style Game Boy game.... (https://youtu.be/YvEajVeAWuA ).

For a good laugh, check out the game over screen that I tacked on at the end of the video.
