exploring the long neck karen tribe people @BigRowTravels

Welcome! We had the privilege to visit the Long Neck Karen people. We were heading deeper towards the border to reach the other larger group but the weather and safety concerns led our driver to the Mae Rim area.

According to AI: The Karen are an ethnic group from Myanmar with a significant population in northern Thailand, primarily living in mountainous regions and known for their rich weaving traditions and, in the case of the Kayan subgroup (Long Neck Karen), the practice of wearing brass neck rings. They are a resilient community, originally swidden cultivators who transitioned to wet-rice farming and cash crops over time, with many now relying on tourism and handicrafts to sustain their communities.
