What are Dapps? (animated explainer video)

What are Dapps - animated explainer?

A DAPP is an application that runs on the Ethereum blockchain. The DAPP can run on any ethereum network, but the majority of them are built for the mainnet. DAPPs can be built in a variety of ways, from simply running an existing web app to building a full-blown decentralized application. You will learn everything you need to know so keep watching until the end. Let’s dive right in.

It is said that the only authorities people trust are mostly themselves, which transpires innovation, eventually leading to a revolution no matter which field. The same can be said for DApps, which tune our perceptions of applications to a whole new level.

So what exactly are DApps? They are decentralized applications that exist and run on blockchain technology. DApps are hosted on a peer-to-peer network that distributes tasks between one user to another. To make it more simple, Decentralized simply means to run the administration through distributed networks rather than a single central authority.

Furthermore, DApps are built on Smart Contract networks which means a program operated from the Ethereum platform. Smart Contracts helps to develop codes when dealing with peer-to-peer transactions, as this code acts as a middle man when dealing in the blockchain. This, in return, diminishes third party costs for transactions, as it is done peer-to-peer through a code of Smart Contract.

Smart Code, in general, is what really makes the entire process decentralized, including cryptocurrencies. The information of Smart Code is held in Nodes, which is available for blockchain users worldwide.
In a nutshell, they are applications that are open source for all users. Let's say, for example, anyone who posts content such as a blog; then no single authority would be able to delete the blog, even the developer who created the application.

When we talk about decentralized networks, the first thing that comes to mind is cryptocurrencies. If a Facebook-like application is developed through DApps, anyone who updates their status or uploads a picture only has the full right to delete their content. Still, in reality, DApps can be used for multiple developing apps such as social media websites. It can mostly be used to create apps that publishes created content by the end user such as a social media platform, online shopping centers and even online gaming apps.

This includes peer-to-peer trading and online banking, where the end-user and the concerned trading peers are their authority.

One of the most significant advantages of DApps is, of course, privacy and security. Since DApps are decentralized, the end-user will not have to submit their personal information before performing any activity on the application. Many centralized applications require permission to have access to an individual's personal information. For example, centralized photo apps ask for gallery access while social media apps ask for personal information. This information goes back to the app developer, which is used for marketing purposes to enhance their app experience.
