Key Testimonies Unfold in High-Profile Murder Trial of Teen Shooter
The State rested its case Tuesday in the murder trial of 16-year-old Jaylen Prince, accused of fatally shooting 15-year-old Warren Grant at Joppatowne High School. The incident occurred on September 6, 2024, during an argument in a school bathroom.
Key testimony was provided by a Corporal from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Unit, who discussed several search warrants executed after Grant’s murder. Investigators searched Prince's bedroom and cell phone, as well as the home and vehicle of another student believed to have assisted Prince in disposing of the murder weapon. The Corporal revealed that ammunition found in Prince’s home matched the casing discovered at the crime scene and the bullet recovered during Grant’s autopsy. However, the actual murder weapon has not been located.
Following the State's conclusion, the Defense filed a motion for acquittal, arguing that the prosecution had not established that the murder was premeditated. The judge denied this motion, leading the Defense to begin calling witnesses, including Prince’s mother. During her testimony, she revealed that Prince suffered permanent damage to a finger in an incident from April 2024. Under cross-examination, the State presented photographs of Prince holding a gun with his left hand, prompting questions about his ability to shoot with that hand, to which his mother replied no.
A student witness also testified about the moments surrounding the shooting. The Defense is set to continue its case Wednesday morning.
