What Is NASA-ISRO’s NISAR Mission? Launch Date & Details

The NISAR mission, a joint project between NASA and ISRO, is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) observatory designed to observe Earth's dynamic surfaces and changes. NISAR aims to study changes in ice sheets, glaciers, sea ice, and the Earth's crust, as well as ecosystem disturbances and natural hazards. It's the first radar imaging satellite to use both L-band and S-band radar frequencies to map the planet. The mission is scheduled for launch in June 2025, with a GSLV-F16 rocket from ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

Joint Mission: NISAR is a collaboration between NASA and ISRO.
Low Earth Orbit (LEO): The satellite will operate in a low Earth orbit.
Radar Imaging: NISAR utilises radar technology to map the Earth's surface, even subtle changes.
Dual Radar Frequencies: The mission uses both L-band and S-band radar, enabling a more comprehensive view of the Earth's surface.
Earth Observation: NISAR aims to study various aspects of Earth's surface, including ice sheets, glaciers, sea ice, crustal deformation, and ecosystem changes.
Natural Hazards: The mission will also contribute to understanding and managing natural hazards like earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions.
Data Applications: NISAR's data will have various applications, including improving our understanding of climate change, disaster management, and resource management.
Launch: The mission is scheduled for launch in June 2025 from ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
