The plot revolves around A-X-L, a robotic combat dog created by a scientist for army and war purposes. It turns out to be extremely intelligent and quick-witted. It runs away one day, so the army is scared, and the government is concerned about whether it will cause harm or not. Meanwhile, a man named 'Miles' discovers A.X.L in a container, and the two quickly become acquainted. They have a great time together, but the creator of A.X.L soon locates his combat robot dog and begins spying on its activities. Miles saves A.X.L from the clutches of the army and the scientist, but A.X.L ends up destroying himself in order to save Miles and rid the world of the cruel people.
