In the early hours of 20 October 2025 at around 03:50 HKT, a cargo aircraft—a ACT Airlines-operated Boeing 747 leased to Emirates—arriving from Dubai landed at Hong Kong International Airport on runway 07L but veered off the north runway, broke through the perimeter fencing and ended up partially submerged in the sea. During the excursion the plane struck a security patrol vehicle outside the runway fence, tragically killing two airport ground staff; all four crew members on board survived. The incident triggered a major rescue and recovery operation and an investigation into the causes of the accident.
