The US Navy has deployed two littoral combat ships in the Middle East in a potential move sweep the Strait of Hormuz for mines laid by Iran. Pentagon officials told lawmakers it would likely take six months to clear the mines that Iran has set in the strait. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters Friday that the military would not speculate on a timeline "to clear any mines that we identify." Meanwhile, Iran's military said it would respond if the United States maintained its blockade of Iranian ports, calling it "banditry" and "piracy."
