The Middle East's first ever world's fair is officially underway in Dubai after being postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The United Arab Emirates aims to attract 25 million visitors to Expo 2020, which runs through March next year.
People were seen pouring through the gates at 9 a.m. on Friday, when the event officially opened.

A series of measures are in place to counter the pandemic. Visitors aged 18 and above are required to present a negative PCR test or proof of vaccination.

A person from France said he took a long vacation so that he can visit the expo. He said he feels at ease due to the anti-infection measures.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan is the commissioner general of the event. In a speech on Thursday, he said it can open a new chapter for the UAE in the year that the country celebrates its Golden Jubilee.

Japan's National Day at the expo has been designated as December 11. The Japanese government plans to use the occasion to promote the 2025 world fair, which takes place in Osaka.
