He is the tallest man to ever play in the NBA at 7'7", but Romanian, Gheorghe Mureșan is also one of the most endearing characters we've had in the league. Identified at a young age by his dentist for his physical attributes, Gheorghe took up the game in his native Romania and the sport saw him move to French Basketball powerhouse Pau Orthez, before he was drafted by the Washington Bullets in 1993. While his height was always a talking point, Gheorghe made it his mission to be known for his basketball prowess and his dedication to the game was rewarded with the Most Improved Player award in 1996 and a trip to the playoffs the following year. His time in the NBA was short, but his impact was everlasting.
