Hiking ALONE - 6 days without seeing another human | Part 3 (Final)
Day 5 & 6 are spent hiking along Dolomite Creek and over Dolomite Pass. Along the way I visit a warden's cabin and some nice lakes. On my last day I encounter a winter storm in July.
Historically, the trail through Pipestone may well be the most important north-south route in the Canadian Rockies. Before the arrival of European fur traders, Natives used the pass as a corridor through the Front Range. In the late 1850s Dr. James Hector traversed the pass during his landmark exploration of the Rockies; and at the turn of the century homesteaders and early guides used the trail as a primary route from the CP rail line at Lake Louise to the Kootenay Plains and points north.
