The XP-82 Twin Mustang - Oshkosh 2019

This XP-82 Twin Mustang is the only flying example of this aircraft in the world. As of August 2021 it's offered for sale with an asking price of $12 million.

The North American Aviation F-82 Twin Mustang was a long-range, high-altitude escort fighter produced for the United States Air Force. It was the last piston-engined fighter ordered into production and was based on the North American Aviation P-51 Mustang. It was initially intended to escort Boeing B-29 Superfortresses on long-range missions during World War II but the war ended before the first production units were operational. They were, however, used during the Korean War. A total of 272 were built.

Noted warbird restorer, Tom Reilly of Douglas, Georgia, headed a ten year restoration project of the 1944 prototype XP-82 variant which is equipped with counter-rotating Packard Merlin V-1650-23 and -25 engines.

On December 31, 2018, the XP-82 Twin Mustang flew for the first time since December 14, 1949. It was flown to AirVenture 2019 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin where it won Grand Champion: Post-World War II among other awards.
