Inside Belarus: Lukashenko says he will step down when opposition protests end
The man dubbed Europe's last dictator, Alexander Lukashenko, has told a giant gathering of his supporters in the Belarus capital Minsk that he will step down from power, but only once the opposition protests have ended and the country is stable. (Subscribe: https://bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Last year, as tens of thousands took to the streets week after week, his regime looked in trouble.
But now Mr Lukashekno's power base appears secure.
