Real-world POOP EMOJI hike 💩 (COYOTE BUTTES, Arizona in VR180)
Coyote Buttes is a section of Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, spanning from lower Utah into northern Arizona. The permit-required Vermilion Cliffs National Monument is home to features such as The Wave, a colorful rock formation with undulating striations resulting from millions of years of erosion.
This VR180 video walks a little over a mile through the wilderness. You'll notice plenty of time is spend with route finding / navigation, as there's no well marked trail. Even on the documented "Wave Trail", there are very few cairn (stone piles), and no blazes or other official trail markers. This is generally what distinguishes a "Wilderness" from a "Park."
Iron oxide in the Jurassic Navajo Sandstone causes for a large variety of red and orange colors. December isn't the best time for light, given the sun is low on the horizon and creates plenty of high contrast shadows, but permits are hard to come by!
Chapters:
0:00 Sand Cove section of Coyote Buttes North (South of The Wave), w/ 💩 💩 💩
3:55 8:05 SWIRLS on ground near the entrance to a wash canyon
6:40 "A little red canyon right here"
8:20 SWIRLED floors and walls of a canyon
9:40 GOLD puddles of water!
11:45 "I'm not really sure where we're at..."
12:23 "Natures Halfpipe"
14:10 "Oh boy!" ... that might be challenging to descend...
15:40 Found an easy (and safe) way down! (Including a "butt slide")
19:10 "I feel bad for whoever has to watch this video"
19:25 Whisper: "So many poop emojis!" 💩 💩 💩
21:10 "Left or right? Right! Very very muddy -- Oh, let's go left!"
23:10 "This is looking like a butt slide situation." (so fitting for poop emoji land!)
24:15 Frozen Sand and Ice Puddles (It's Dec 26th, after all)
25:45 Goodbye Video
VR180 footage was captured using the Lenovo Mirage camera, and is best viewed using a virtual reality headset (e.g. Google Cardboard, Google Daydream, Gear VR, Oculus, HTC Vive, etc.). If viewing from your phone, you should be able to move it around to "look" in different directions. If viewing from desktop, use your mouse to click+drag to pan around. Apologies for the shakiness -- handheld with no gimbal.
