Weekly Torah Study: Miracles

What constitutes a miracle? And who decides that a miracle has occurred? One man's miracle may be another man's happenstance or stroke of good fortune. When Israel found itself at the Sea of Reeds, Torah tells us that G-d caused a "strong east wind" to blow all throughout the night, causing the sea to split. Did G-d's use of a force of nature render the splitting of the sea any less miraculous? Is the fact that the sun rises every morning any less of a miracle simply because it is a fact of nature? Who, after all, created the world in which the laws of nature exist?

This teaching was originally intended to be posted for the Seventh Day of Passover, which celebrates the crossing of the Sea of Reeds. Due to technical difficulties, it's posting was delayed till after the conclusion of Passover. The subject of the nature of miracles, however, is relevant every day.
