7 TIPS TO MASTER THE TONE CURVE IN LIGHTROOM! Simple Steps - Powerful Results
Tone Curves are hard right? Wrong. In this tutorial I set out to demystify this powerful and under utilised tool to show how I create professional photo edits with just a few easy tweaks.
Firstly I explain how the tone curve works and then show you the fundementals for manipulating the curve for different effects. One look I get asked about very often is the vintage faded look. In this example I walk you through how you can reproduce this look very simply. Once we've looked at how we control brightness throughout our photo I then take you a bit deeper into the tool and show how you can control the Red Green and Blue channels to create specific colour grading looks.
As an overview...
add an S curve for more contrast
add a reverse S to reduce contrast
Lift the curve up to brighten the midtones
Add an M curve to boost the shadows and highlights
Lift the black point up to create a faded look
Edit the RGB channel curves to affect the colour toning
