Structure of the Human Eye
The human eye is one of the most valuable and sensitive sense organs. It enables us to see the wonderful world and the colors around us. Eye helps us to see near and distant objects clearly. Thus, of all the sense organs, the human eye is the most significant one as it enables us to see the beautiful, colorful world around us.
A human eye is the most important organ of our body which is an optical device that serves as our organs of sight. The human eye is like a camera.
The Eyeball of the human eye is spherical in shape. The diameter of the eyeball is 2.3cm. Though there is a marginal difference in size in some people. It consists of a tough fibrous membrane called sclera that protects the internal parts of the eye.
Cornea: It is responsible for the maximum refraction (bending) of the light that enters the eye.
Iris: The ring-shaped membrane behind the cornea is iris and it has an adjustable circular opening.
Pupil: The pupil regulates and controls the amount of light entering the eye.
The lens: The eye lens forms an inverted real image of the object on the retina.
Retina: The screen of the eye is referred to as retina because the light rays come through the pupil and pass through the lens and converge on a screen called the retina.
Suspensory ligament: These are elastic-like structures present in the eye that helps to keep the lens in its position.
Ciliary muscles: They help in adjusting the focal length of the lens by contraction or relaxing. The vitreous humor lies behind the lens and forms the bulk of the eye.
Optical nerves: There are some nerves that connect the retina to the brain and it is called the optic nerves.
Blindspot: Blindspot is the small region where the optic nerve and the retina meet.
Eyelids: It protects the eye from dust and other foreign particles.
All the above-mentioned topics are described in an interactive and efficient manner so that the students could easily understand them.
