Politics and Security in the Democratic Republic of Congo

As the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) prepares for the general election in December, the country grapples with significant obstacles affecting security, regional development, and climate change. These multifaceted challenges include electoral insecurity, armed conflict in the eastern provinces, tense relations with Rwanda, and economic instability.

Home to the Congo Basin, the mineral-rich DRC also strives to carve out an appropriate role in combating climate change by protecting its vast rainforests while the country seeks to benefit from its mineral resources, which are indispensable for electronic vehicle technology.

Join the CSIS Africa Program for a conversation with the Honorable Patrick Muyaya, DRC Minister of Communication and Media and Government Spokesperson, as they address critical issues shaping both DRC and our collective future.

This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
