How To Cut Down Your Bike's Steerer Tube

You will need to cut your carbon steerer tube if you have a new set of forks or if you have changed your position.

It's time to cut down your steerer tube if you have a lot of steerer protruding from the top of the stem. Minimal, or no extra steerer will look tidier and will also be a bit safer in the event of a crash.

To cut your steerer tube, you'll need a hacksaw and, preferably, a hacksaw guide. You'll also need to remove the forks from your bike.

If you're cutting a carbon steerer tube it's good to have a specialised carbide blade as this will prevent the fibers from fraying.
