How To Make A DIY Sugar Cookie Kit - A Demonstration By Kookie
I've been baking up a lot of DIY Cookie Kits lately, and I've been getting a lot of questions from other cookie decorators and hobby bakers about how I put together my kits. This video is an in-depth look at what materials and supplies I use to put together my kits. They're great fun for kids, families, and even adults, especially with a lot of people being at home a bit more than usual right now.
This is just how I do my own cookie kits. Perhaps you do yours a little differently. Did I miss anything? If so, I'd love to hear your feedback! Talk among eachother in the comments below. Share information, tips, and ideas. I'd love to make this page a great cookie kit resource for everyone!
***I forgot to mention this in the video, but as a general rule of thumb, include atleast 1/2 oz or 15g of icing per cookie in your kit at the very least. I do like to add extra because kiddies love a little extra icing. As for consistency - it should be a medium consistency - not outline or stiff, and not flooding. An outline or stiff consistency may break the piping bags if the kids squeeze too much (and the hole in the opening is too small) and a flooding consistency will just be too messy.***
Most of these supplies can be bought from places like ULine or Amazon, but I encourage you to also check out your local packaging and baking supply stores, as well. Support local, support the little guys - they can always use your business, especially now during these trying times. (I'm writing this in May 2020).
Some of my local favourites (in the Southwestern Ontario, Canada area) for a lot of these supplies including bags, boxes, cookie cutters, and sprinkles, are Flour Confections (https://www.flourconfections.com/), McCalls Chocolate & Baking Supplies (http://mccalls.ca/), Creative Bag (https://www.creativebag.com/), Vanilla Food Company (https://www.vanillafoodcompany.ca/), Sweet Shapes Co (http://sweetshapes.co/), and How Sweet Is That? (https://howsweetisthat.ca/). They're all wonderful companies. If you've got a favourite local company, shout them out in the comments below so that other watchers can give them their business, too.
Want to skip on the plastic? I've been on the look-out for bio-degradable packaging and plastic-free disposable piping bags. If you've got a good source for these, feel free to share them in the comments below. I'd love to hear from you!
