bell hooks at St. Norbert College

Prolific, canonical and beloved: Social justice scholar bell hooks packed St. Norbert College's Walter Theatre for her reading on "The End of Domination." Comparing Martin Luther King's vision with present-day realities, hooks encouraged conversation, challenged privilege that does not extend itself to all and preached a message, ultimately, of love.

The evening with bell hooks was part of a two-day visit to the St. Norbert campus April 15-16, 2014, where hooks also:

- led a service of Common Prayer, reflecting on the place of love in our lives.
- read from her children's books to area third-graders.
- met with staff and students.

The visit was part of a "year of bell hooks" focused on the Berea College scholar's own work and its themes. The programming launched the new Cassandra Voss Center for issues of gender and identity at St. Norbert, a Catholic liberal arts college in De Pere, Wis.
