Elon Musk operated a school out of his rocket factory for a period of time to teach his five children, and also Baby X, the sixth. His kids were previously enrolled in a private school in Los Angeles for gifted children, but Musk was dissatisfied with their schooling. But why was Elon Musk not satisfied with traditional schooling?

According to Elon, regular or traditional schools were just not doing the things that he believed should be done. And not education the important subjects. Musk has been a vocal critic of the American educational system, claiming that professors fail to explain why students are taught certain subjects.

They are given a mathematical formula without being told why it is significant. For instance, he believes that just listing the equipment needed to disassemble an engine isn't the same as attempting to disassemble the engine yourself and learning the importance of the tools as you go. When an entrepreneur is dissatisfied with the way things are done, he usually creates something new - whether it's rockets, vehicles, computer chips, or his own school.

This new school was given the name Ad Astra, which means "to the stars" in Latin. How cool is that! He actually recruited a teacher from their previous school who agreed with Elon that there was a better way of doing things and education children. Josh Dahn is the teacher we are talking about.
