Starship Flight Test 9 is an upcoming mission that will involve Ship 35 (S35) and Booster 14 (B14), marking the first time a Super Heavy booster is being reflown.

Both Flight 7 and Flight 8 ended with the disintegration of the Ship, so a key objective for Flight 9 will likely be to successfully return a Block 2 Ship—Ship 35—from orbit via a controlled water landing. The flight may also revisit several experiments from previous missions. These include the deployment of Starlink simulator satellites, testing a trajectory that places stress on the flaps, reducing the number of heat shield tiles, and trialing both actively-cooled experimental tiles and an ablative heat shield material. Ship 35 is equipped with reinforced catch pins, potentially enabling a future tower catch, although such a catch attempt is now expected to be postponed until at least Flight 10.

Before Flight 9 can proceed, the FAA must complete its investigation into Flight 8. In addition, Ship 35 might require modifications to address issues that contributed to the failures in Flights 7 and 8—most notably, suspected harmonic oscillations damaging the methane (CH₄) downcomers. Due to the FAA review and the potential for more extensive rework, the wait between Flight 8 and Flight 9 could be longer than the 49-day gap seen between Flights 7 and 8.

The ninth flight test of Starship is preparing to launch as soon as April 19.
