CAN FD Explained - A Simple Intro (2020)
CAN FD Intro: https://www.csselectronics.com/pages/can-fd-flexible-data-rate-intro
Need a simple intro tutorial to CAN FD? In this video guide we introduce CAN FD (CAN Flexible Data-Rate) - incl. CAN FD frames, overhead/efficiency, example applications and logging use cases.
CAN FD is the next generation of "Classical CAN". With the rise in e.g. vehicle and machine functionality, there is an increasing pressure for increasing the data capacity. To resolve this, CAN FD is designed to increase the network speed and efficiency - while enabling improved reliability and facilitating a smooth transition from existing CAN bus systems.
Part of the solution is the CAN FD frame, which enables the transmission of up to 64 bytes of data. Further, the CAN FD frame enables bit-rate switching, which lets the data rate increase to up to 5 Mbit/s during the payload transmission. As a result, CAN FD can support up to 3-8x higher network bandwidths than Classical CAN.
We also briefly touch upon the key CAN FD applications, CAN FD data logger use cases - and the future of CAN FD.
