I always regretted not filming a video of this scale model I built. (See the projects webpage on my webiste: astopia.eu )

But with today’s AI tools, that’s no longer an issue!

Using just a few photos from back then, I defined a start and end frame — and AI did the rest.

Now I finally have a video of my model!

The design of this scale model is inspired by the panopticon, a system of control designed by Jeremy Bentham. Although a single watchman cannot physically observe all inmates at once, the uncertainty keeps them constantly aware of surveillance—a concept Michel Foucault later explored in Discipline and Punish. Today, it resonates with the pervasive presence of cameras in modern cities.

This model is built at 1/200 scale, making the building about 240 meters tall in reality. Exhibited in 2012 at Bozar Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels, it consists of 1,845 laser-cut parts modeled in 3D. The stop-motion video below shows the process of assembling the 1.25-meter-tall model.
