Titanic Soundtrack Suite

This is my compilation of James Horner's Score to the film Titanic. Listed below are the tracks I used, in order:

- Southampton (0:00) (So we jump right in with the suite with the ship already setting sail. This suite is not full of slow melodies, it is primarily action.)

– Leaving Port (1:54) (I think we've all watched the film a few times so I won't talk about scenes so much as the music itself. More variations on the Titanic Theme, it features heavy synthesized vocals and undertones.)

- Take Her To Sea, Mr. Murdoch (5:11) (Let's Stretch Her Legs. I like how the buildup of music leads to an almost dead stop, then kicks back in with the engines churning up to a cruising speed, signified in the Titanic Theme yet again.)

- Hard to Starboard (7:48) (This is the first statement of the love theme for the suite and only serves as an intro into the sinking. So fast paced for something that took so long to occur, the movie takes 61 minutes to sink Titanic from striking the iceberg to being fully submerged. I'm not sure if the percussive hits came before this or if Titanic was it's debut but you hear more and more of this style in James Horner's work later.)

- Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave (13:13) (You'll hear this twice in the suite. This time is transitional music with percussion and piano. On a side note, Horner was known for having a lot of piano notes in his score if he used it, lots of broken up chords to simulate more with less.)

- A Building Panic (14:03) (I loved the music at 18:15 and 19:02, I'm glad they released it for the second album, Back to Titanic. It cut music from "The Sinking" into it which makes it flow nicely.)

- The Sinking (21:33) (Used for more transitional score, it features the love theme without ever finishing. Some might call that foreshadowing....)

- Death of Titanic (23:14) (Titanic is still sinking...piano is being used as percussion, there are moments of hope, like everything might still be okay, then the ship goes right back into it. This scene must have been hard to score. You can't go with just scoring the action, you have to throw in themes but variate and have it match the sinking style you already have set up. I like 27:39, when the priest is speaking scripture. The pulsing at 28:29 get my blood going every time. It also gives you a heads up to music that will be featured in Enemy at the Gates at 27:55.)

- A Shore Never Reached (30:00) (30 minutes in and we finally get a chance to relax as the London Symphony Orchestra brass bring us a counter point to Titanic's theme in a somber tone. Another track from Back to Titanic)

- Unable to Stay, Unwilling to Leave (32:16) (I decided to use this music here because the film features it at the end when Rose is reunited with everyone. It's a beautiful scene and a tragic statement of their theme.)

- Rose (34:03) (Unfortunately, the previous track ends by going into action and this suite is done with action so I used the end of Rose to bring us down to...)

- Epilogue: The Deep and Timeless Sea (34:20) (The final track from Back to Titanic, I think James Horner has given us the best representation of music for those lost at sea in a film score. Mostly statements of the love theme, with real voices this time, it brings the suite to a close in classic Horner style: descending bass with a happy theme drawn out repeatedly.)

I do not own any copyright music from Titanic, just ownership of this suite. Purchase Titanic and Back to Titanic by James Horner on iTunes if you liked the score. This film score was one of my favorite growing up; the film was not. The movie won a ton of awards and film score was one of them. There are 28 tracks on both soundtracks and I used score from only 11 of them. As always, comments are welcome and encouraged.
