Email Metrics Explained | Email Open Rate VS Click Rate

58.4% open rate sounds incredible. But if a large chunk of your list is on Apple Mail, that number is inflated: Apple pre-opens emails automatically and it counts as an open. So we never use it as a benchmark. Here is what we actually look at when auditing an account:

Click rate: aim for 1.2% minimum, 2% is the target.
Bounce rate: keep it under 0.5%. The way to get there is building a dedicated bounce segment and excluding those contacts from every future campaign.
Unsubscribe rate: needs to stay below 0.3%.
Spam complaint rate: needs to be below 0.01%. Anything above and inbox providers will start routing your emails away from the primary folder.

These four numbers tell you far more about the health of your email programme than open rate ever will.
