Honda XRM 125 - A Proper Review (It's not road legal in NZ)
The most amazing model we've seen come into New Zealand recently has been the Honda XRM 125. 125cc, PGM-FI 4 speed - Assembled in the Philippines.
This bike went through a weird entrance into the country. Rumours began when Philippine based news sites started posted reports of the model being shipped to New Zealand. While Honda New Zealand didn't actually announce the bike till after it arrived at dealers around the country. When we heard about this model we begged a local dealer to take it for a ride!
A massive thanks to Lakes Honda - Rotorua, New Zealand:

It's basically a dirt spec Honda Wave and we LOVE it!
Sadly due to recently updated braking laws for motorcycles in New Zealand - this model is not road legal and only sold for farm/off road use:

"On 12 September 2019, the Associate Minister of Transport made a rule change – Land Transport Rule: Light-vehicle Brakes Amendment (No 2) 2019.
The rule change makes it compulsory to have an anti-lock braking system (ABS) on motorcycles over 125cc.
Motorcycles up to and including 125cc must have ABS or a simpler system known as a combined braking system (CBS).
The rule change is expected to improve the safety of motorcyclists on our roads.
From 1 April 2020
All new model new motorcycles over 125cc must have ABS.
All new model new motorcycles up to and including 125cc must have ABS or CBS"

If the Honda XRM125 had a combination braking system it COULD be eligible for road use in New Zealand. Other Honda models produced in Thailand have CBS (Combination braking systems) whilst Yamaha New Zealand currently offers the Yamaha YS125 as a road legal option using CBS. Will Bluewing Honda New Zealand push for this small update with next years XRM125s? We hope so. It'd make them eligible to be road legal!
RIDE MORE! Stay safe, have fun.
