Rootsmagic 8 speed & click count compared with Family Historian 7 and previous version

Rootsmagic 8 was released on 30 September 2021 and is receiving mixed reviews and many long term users including myself have turned away from it . Many of those users have migrated to Family Historian 7 and Heredis 2021 as new homes for their genealogy research quests, so why? Personally my main problem was a reduction of productivity rather than an increase, that coupled with no real long wished for features and many Rootsmagic 7 features still missing.

Rootsmagic TV have produced over 6 hours of Webinar material but it is mainly a familiarity overview rather than best practice training. The Webinars being live streamed also threw up a number of remaining bugs and problems in the program which I will focus on in another video.

Firstly Rootsmagic 8 is not complete in respect of the features which were available in version 7. Secondly a lot of users have expressed it is slower in operation, requires many more clicks for common tasks and brings no real benefits over using the previous version. With so many conflicting opinions I felt a test between Family Historian 7, Rootsmagic 7 and finally Rootsmagic 8 was appropriate. This video examines the processes involved in a common task of adding one family from a census return and attempts to identify where each program could be more user friendly.
