Derry Girls (I AM A DERRY GIRL)

First time doing a fan edit but felt in the mood to just mess around with editing. I love Derry Girls so much but KT refuses to watch it because I used to stand in front of the TV and try to read the subtitles with an Irish accent simultaneously. I absolutely adore the show and think season 2 did a phenomenal job of showing that James is a Derry Girl which was a super heart warming development. I’m not over the fact that it was Michelle who told him to stay. It was so emotional and even more impactful because she has been the most vocal about hazing him but it’s also because she’s his cousin. She literally symbolizes FAMILY which the Derry Girls give to James. Honestly, the series is beautiful for its comedy but there are so many breathtaking moments of pure poetry: the foil between the kids and the parents in season 1 finale, Sister Michael’s somberness, deliberate and meaningful song choices. The dynamics within the friend group highlight the joy of youth but is also set against the backdrop of the turbulent times of the 90s in Northern Ireland. It pays a nod to nostalgia but also recognizes the growing pains of adolescence. We’re kids enjoying the moment until history knocks on our front doors. When do presidential visits become more than reasons to skip school? And when does our world expand beyond our hometowns?

While pilot seasons tend to test out the characters and gauge audience reception, following seasons really flush out the characters and give them quirks. I’m eagerly looking forward to what season 3 has in store. I know the writer mentioned that James picking up Erin for prom unintentionally paralleled RossXRachel but I really think it was framed more in the way that James is a Derry Girl and the girls are gonna come first. He’s gonna be there for all the big moments because he’s one of them now. I really hope that creator doesn’t start going the romantic route because that kind of plateaus a series. My preferred ship would be Orla and James because I think they make a pretty good duo and they would offer plot support rather than demand attention. Their softness reminds me of the background moments of JackieXHyde. Anyways, go watch Derry Girls on Netflix. Feel free to reach out and partake in analyses about Gaelic countries, sitcoms, and character developments. I'M BACK ON TUMBLR.

On a side note, I promote 90s Irish rock bands. The Cranberries has my soul. Also guilty of loving Enya and Celtic Women since I was in the W0MB. Oh and go stan Dermot Kennedy because he has some good tunes too.
