Apartment hunting in Munich like a novice
Almost a year later and I finally have another video! I had the footage but I just never did anything with it. In tonight's episode I talk about my experience in looking for an apartment in Munich and some of the things I had to learn along the way.
Websites worth checking out when looking for a place to stay:
WG-Gesucht for shared apartments
https://www.wg-gesucht.de
Immowelthttps://www.immowelt.de
ImmoScout24
https://www.immobilienscout24.de
Join expat groups or apartment rental groups on Facebook, just keep an eye out for anything suspicious. Don't hand over money without any kind of surety.
Unfortunately some things I didn't mention in the video but are worth noting:
1. When looking at the number of rooms available for a place, "1-Zimmer" refers to a bedroom/studio, like mine. A "2-Zimmer" would be a bedroom and living room. A living room is considered a separate room and is added to the room count.
2. A lot of the rentals have a short term staying periods as some people rent out their rooms for a couple of months while they are away, or to students who are here for the semester. Try see if you can negotiate a longer contract if you find somewhere you like.
3. Landlords can be really nice or really scummy. Take photos of the apartment when you move in to keep track of damages.
4. Don't be put off by the pictures at first. If you find an apartment in your price range and in an area you like, go check it out anyway for yourself! Trust.
