It should not be this hard to get our kids good reading instruction.

The evidence has been clear for decades that systematic and explicit phonics instruction is necessary for the vast majority of kids.

Incidental phonics, which we have seen in Lucy, Calkins, and Fountas and Pinnell for years and years, is not sufficient for many kids.

So if your child is a struggling reader, you have to ask yourself, is the problem with your child or is the problem with the instruction they have been getting?
