Hamas ‘don’t look any different’ from civilians: ANU Professor

ANU North America Liaison Office Director Professor John Blaxland says Hamas fighters in the streets of Gaza “don’t look any different” from civilians.

Professor Blaxland's remarks come after the White House told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that they must distinguish between Hamas and Gaza civilians.

“Hamas fighters … don’t look any different from civilians, in and around the streets of Gaza,” Professor Blaxland told Sky News Australia.

“They have spent the money not on hospitals and schools and education, but on infrastructure underground, infrastructure that can be used to defend against Israeli attacks that they have invoked.”

Professor Blaxland suspects that Hamas has stored a lot of resources underground, which could be used for those in Gaza who haven't evacuated to the south.
