In memory of Barry Dennen: King Herod's Song

It's with great sadness that we learned that Barry Dennen, most famous for playing Pontius Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar has passed away. From the first concept recording to the original Broadway production and of course the original motion picture in 1973, Barry made this iconic role his own.

Barry has played the role of Pilate multiple times since the 70's and in various productions of Superstar around the world. We could have easily chosen one of many performances of him playing Pilate but instead we want to feature one of his less-known JCS performances, something that most of you have probably never heard.

From 2003 to 2004 Barry played the role of King Herod in the North American cast of Superstar alongside Eric Kunze as Jesus and Lawrence Clayton as Judas. Not many recordings exist with Barry playing the role of King Herod but we uncovered a high quality audience recording from 2003 in our vault that featured him. We hope you enjoy this tribute to a great performer! Rest in peace Barry, we will miss you.
