Off grid solar power - 12V pressure pump
Off grid solar power - 12V pressure pump
Well, here's my solar water pressure pump set up and working, although I still have one minor leak on the high pressure side of the pump to fix. On the first night, it got a decent work out, too.
My eldest daughter came to visit for three nights and on Saturday night we had a shower each and used the toilet a couple of times each. On Sunday morning, before the sun came up, the volt meter was still showing 12.8V.
In the coming weeks, I'll try to do a decent test of the pump and batteries by disconnecting the solar panel to see how long I can run the pump without the voltage getting too low.
If you haven't seen my earlier videos, this is a 12V DC pressure pump running from two old car batteries, which are charged by a 100W PV panel through a 20A MPPT charge controller.
The pump is pumping water from a 1000 gallon rainwater tank, which is fed by the carport. The rainwater from the house goes to a 24000 gallon (90000 litre) rainwater tank, which is currently full and I'll be keeping that in reserve, just to top up the smaller tank if I run short of water.
I'm so impressed with this system that I'm also going to run some LED flood lights from it in the near future.
