Campervan RESPRAY in TURKEY for £1,000

Vanlife couple make a crazy decision to get their self built campervan fully resprayed in Turkey. It is a story of trusting strangers in a foreign country, not speaking the language and hoping it will not break their campervan.

Hi guys and welcome back to your favourite orange vanlife couple! This week we take you on a crazy, insane and somewhat emotional rollercoaster ride – WE GET OUR VAN RESPRAYED IN TURKEY!

Yep, that is right, we agree to handing over the keys to a random workshop in Antalya for 2 whole weeks to get every dent and every rust spot sorted on our beloved tiny home on wheels. If you’ve ever been up close and personal with our orange dreamboat, you’ll have noticed that she is starting to look every one of her 10 years old! We had rust in all sorts of places – above the cab, back doors, rear lights, wheel trim, next to windows, inside doors! Now that we think about it, how could we let our girl get so tatty?!

Not only do we get all this bodywork done on the van, we only go and get a brand new paint job too! When Sahin and the team at Umitcan Karavan suggested we get this work done, we never seriously considered it but whilst we were getting the leaks in our roof fitted and the bed sorted, we thought – how bad can it be!

So strap in for this roller-coaster of a video as we take you along on the journey of getting this work done in Turkey! The fact that we can’t say more than a few words in Turkish (and most of them revolve around beer) and the team at Umitcan Karavan can’t speak English, we think we did alright getting the work agreed and done on time….. pretty mental actually when you think about it!

One of the things that tempted us into getting the work done was the price we were quoted! In the UK we’d been given quotes of £3 or even £4k to get all the rust and dents sorted and a full respray! So when they gave us the quote of £1,100 for EVERYTHING, we thought we’d place our Dee Dee in their hands and go for it!

As you can see from the events of the two weeks, it wasn’t without its stresses or disappointments, but we hope you agree with us that the end result is completely 1000000% worth it. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome, with how she looks and above all, the friends for life we have made with that beautiful bunch of magicians at Umitcan Karavan.

We honestly can’t thank these guys enough, we put our complete trust in their hands and they didn’t let us down! Yes it probably isn’t as professional a job as we would have got back in the UK, yes it was done in a ‘rustic’ workshop and yes, we did have some issues with lights not being connected when it was done. But taking all that into account for the price we paid and the memories we’ve made, if you were to ask us if it was something we’d do again, we wouldn’t hesitate with a big fat YES!
