Everything Changed

Inspiration for songwriting often comes from real life; something observed, personally experienced or heard about from others. The first few lines of this song came from watching my mother place her magazines, as she reads them, in the now empty chair next to hers. We still call it “Dad’s chair” , and probably always will, even though he has been gone for over a year. My songwriter’s imagination, thinking about that scene, conjured up a story about a rural-living woman who suddenly experiences a number of unwanted changes in her life: death, a broken engagement, the family farm being sold. But by the song’s end, she decides it’s time to make some changes—positive ones—of her own. If you’ve ever had to “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” (as the old saying goes) and chart a different direction in life, by choice or necessity, perhaps you can identify somewhat with the story told in “Everything Changed”. I hope you like it!
