Unfortunately, some of the most famous historical locations to visit in Phnom Penh are some of the most heartbreaking. The Tuol Sleng genocide museum (S-21) & Choeung Ek Genocidal Center (Killing Fields) are atrocities in our time. We learnt so much about how the S-21 prison was used to torture and abuse Cambodian people before they were trucked off to the appalling and terrifying Killing Fields of Choeung Ek.

We were brought to tears more than once, and only by visiting and listening to all the stories of Cambodians from the time can you get a sense of the atrocities inflicted by the Khmer Rouge on their own country men and women. Honestly, these are some of the most upsetting places we have ever visited but would recommend that any traveller to Phnom Penh visits both the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center so that they can also learn of the horrifying history.

The closing words of the excellent audio tour remind us that everyone must learn of these horrors so that we can stop it happening again. We couldn't have said it any better.
