Advantageous and Disadvantageous

Rolling Patching
==============
Advantages:
Does not require database downtime
Online Patching – 1 Node will be patched at a time
Does not require database-wide downtime : There will be minimal downtime as instances are shut down on the node being patched

Disadvantages:
Disks Groups should be in High redundancy is recommended
Requires Automatic Storage Management (ASM) high redundancy to reduce the risk of disk failure.
Length of time to patch is more
Must be on Oracle Database 11.2.0.2 Bundle Patch 2 or higher

Non-Rolling Patching
=================
Advantages:
Requires least amount of downtime to patch
Eliminates the risk of a single disk failure
Any Disk Groups redundancy is acceptable

Disadvantages:
Does require database downtime
Database will be down throughout entire patching window

Hybrid Patching 1:
DB nodes patching in rolling fashion
CELL nodes patching in non-rolling fashion

Hybrid Patching 2:
DB nodes patching in non-rolling fashion
CELL nodes patching in rolling fashion
