Evans Street Opening 1999

Documentation of 1999 event in Greenville, North Carolina which was a celebration of the re-opening of the main street in the downtown part of the city. Twenty-three years before, the city had closed the street and created a pedestrian mall. This reopening two blocks of Evans Street was part of a rebranding effort which had renamed the downtown area "Uptown."
The event begins with a parade on Evans Street, featuring local officials riding in antique automobiles. At 09:05 the speaking part of the event begins, featuring, among others, City Manager Ron Kimble, Uptown Greenville leader Don Edwards, County Commission Chair Eugene James and Greenville Mayor Nancy Jenkins.
