Vicenç Montoliu i Massana, más conocido como Tete Montoliu (1933-1997), pianista de jazz y compositor, fue el primero de nuestros músicos de jazz que trascendió las fronteras de España, alcanzando la fama y prestigio internacional.

Con un papel en la escena del jazz español similar al que jugó Martial Solal en Francia, Tete tocó con muchos de los grandes de su época, como Bobby Hutcherson, Ben Webster, Lucky Thompson, George Coleman, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, Kenny Dorham o Roland Kirk, y su discografía es un auténtico tesoro.

Jazz San Javier tiene el honor de presentar el estreno nacional de este proyecto, liderado por otro grande del jazz español, el genial pianista gaditano Chano Domínguez, ganador del premio Jazz San Javier 2005, y en el que participan algunos de los músicos que acompañaron a Tete en vida, como Horacio Fumero, su fiel contrabajista más de 20 años, el baterista David Xirgu y el saxofonista Eladio Reinón; y como invitada especial, la gran cantante catalana Carme Canela.

El repertorio se vertebra a partir de una relectura de las piezas que acostumbraba a interpretar el propio Tete en sus conciertos y que van desde temas de autoría propia, hasta piezas de sus músicos predilectos como Thelonious Monk, Dexter Gordon y Duke Ellington, sin olvidar la inclinación personal que sentía el músico catalán por el bolero y las composiciones de su amigo y admirado Joan Manuel Serrat.

Vicenç Montoliu i Massana, better known as Tete Montoliu (1933-1997), jazz pianist and composer, was the first of our jazz musicians to transcend the borders of Spain, achieving international fame and prestige.

With a role in the Spanish jazz scene similar to that played by Martial Solal in France, Tete played with many of the greats of his day, such as Bobby Hutcherson, Ben Webster, Lucky Thompson, George Coleman, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon , Kenny Dorham or Roland Kirk, and his discography is a real treasure.

San Javier Jazz has the honor of presenting the national premiere of this project, led by another great figure of Spanish jazz, the brilliant pianist Chano Domínguez, from Cádiz, winner of the 2005 San Javier Jazz award, and in which play some of the musicians who accompanied Tete in life, like Horacio Fumero, his faithful double bass player for more than 20 years, the drummer David Xirgu and the saxophonist Eladio Reinón; and as a special guest, the great Catalan singer Carme Canela.

The repertoire is based on a rereading of the pieces that Tete himself used to play in his concerts and that range from songs of his own authorship, to pieces by his favorite musicians such as Thelonious Monk, Dexter Gordon and Duke Ellington, without forgetting the personal inclination that the Catalan musician felt for the bolero and the compositions of his admired friend Joan Manuel Serrat.
