Arte incómodo: "La rebelde" de Antonio Fillol (h. 1914) | Invitadas

Una muchacha es expulsada por su familia del campamento en el que vive entre increpaciones y evidentes signos de maltrato. En esta composición, que concurrió a la Exposición Nacional de 1915 y fue adquirida por el Estado, Fillol alude con gran fuerza emotiva tanto a la violencia contra las mujeres como a la incomprensión por parte de una sociedad patriarcal basada en tradiciones ancestrales –encarnada aquí por el pueblo gitano– de los deseos femeninos de emancipación y autonomía.

"The Rebel", c. 1914

Amidst insults and evident signs of mistreatment, a girl is expelled by her family from the camp where she lives. In this composition, which was presented at the National Exhibition of 1915 and acquired by the State, Fillol alludes with great emotional force both to the violence suffered by women and to the incomprehension of a patriarchal society based on ancestral traditions, here incarnated in the Gypsies, of women’s desires for emancipation and self-reliance.
