Co-director explains why "American Sikh" is a truly American story

“This is an American film that happens to have a Sikh character in a story,” Vishavjit Singh, the co-director of “American Sikh” film, said after a screening of the Oscar-qualified animated short film at Asia Society in New York. The film is based on Singh’s true life story facing prejudice and finding acceptance when he dressed up as "Sikh Captain America.” He emphasized the importance of how there needs to be more representation of Sikh characters in films and shows in this country.

“American Sikh” premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in June 2023, and it was the first time that a film featured a Sikh character.
