➤RO Cetatea Devei a fost construită in secolul al XIII lea (prima mențiune documentară datând din anul 1269) pe un con vulcanic numit azi Dealul Cetății. Romanii au întărit fortificaţiile căci drumul sării trecea chiar pe lângă cetate.
In 1444, Iancu de Hunedoara primeşte stăpânire asupra Cetății Devei cu toate bogăţiile sale, stăpânire care încetează în 1504.
În a doua jumătatea a secolului al XVII-lea, din porunca principelui Gabriel Bethlen se construişte în cetate un bastion avand destinație de închisoare şi loc de tortură.
In 1784, Cetatea Devei devine loc de refugiu pentru nobilii fugiţi de pe domeniile lor de teama răsculaților conduși de Horea, Cloşca şi Crişan.
Prin 1817 împăratul Francisc I a poruncit refacerea Cetăţii Devei. Lucrările au durat 12 ani.
In 13 august 1849 o explozie la magazia cu praf de puşcă distruge în mare parte cetatea. În prezent restaurată, cetatea este azi deschisă publicului.

➤EN The Fortress of Deva was built in the 13th century, (the first documentary mention dating from 1269) on top of a volcanic cone, called nowadays Citadel Hill. The Romans strengthened the fortifications because the Salt Road was passing right next to the fortress.
In 1444, Iancu de Hunedoara receives dominion over the fortress of Deva with all his riches, a dominion that ends in 1504.
In the second half of the XVIIth century, at the command of Gabriel Bethlen, a bastion as prison and place of torture was built.
In 1784, the fortress Deva becomes a refuge for nobles fleeing from their domains in fear of the rebels led by Horea, Closca, and Crisan.
Around 1817 Francis I ordered the restoration of the fortress of Deva. The works lasted 12 years.
On August 13, 1849, an explosion at a gunpowder warehouse destroyed much of the fortress. Currently restored, the fortress is now open to the public.
