The Gothic Cathedral That Took Longer to Finish Than Expected #shorts #history #design

Construction of St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne began in 1858 during the Victorian gold rush.
Designed by architect William Wardell in Gothic Revival style, the cathedral was built primarily from locally quarried bluestone with sandstone detailing.
Although the main structure was largely completed by the 1890s, the iconic twin spires were not installed until 1939 — more than 80 years after construction began.
This short recreates the historical construction progression of one of Australia’s most significant 19th-century religious landmarks.
