I have no explanation for what she is doing. I only document what I see. I saw similar behavior in a Latvian nest a few years ago. the female grabbed one of her chicks and placed it on the edge of the nest. the chick crawled back into the nest. The incident did not repeat itself. The chick grew up normally

The Black Stork nest camera is situated in Karula National Park, southern Estonia. We have been following this nest since 2016. 2-3 chicks per year fledged here from 2016 to 2019. In 2020 a new young female came to the nest and though she laid two eggs, the nesting was unsuccessful. The breeding started too late. In 2021 three chicks fledged. The male is named Karl II and the female Kaia. 2023 Karl II returned to the nest on April 12th and Kaia April 20th.
The male Karl II (2020), Kaia (2022) and chicks from 2019, 2021 and 2022 are equipped with GPS-transmitters. Their migration can be seen on migration map https://birdmap.5dvision.ee/en
