Klara Wolf’s Star in "The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do"

Meet Klara Wolf and her star, which is featured in our new exhibition, "The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do."

Born in Budapest in 1909, Klara spent the war years in the Budapest ghetto and was liberated in January 1945. When Nazis passed rules that Jews wear stars, what Klara called “during the reign of terror in Budapest,” her mother hand-stitched this star out of leather. Klara told us that the star “was torn off my chest and put into my hand by a very young Russian soldier on the day of my liberation.”

Experience the global story of the Holocaust through the personal testimonies, objects, and photos of those who were there, like Klara at our exhibition, "The Holocaust: What Hate Can Do."
