2020-10-16 Raspberry Pi 3 & Pi 4 Lynx Blockchain Mining Farm (teaser)
This video shows 2 stacks of 6 Raspberry Pi 3 and Raspberry Pi 4 devices (12 total), physically networked to two switches, powered by 2 independent white USB power hubs (attached to enclosure). Each stack contains 3 fans, keeping the hardware cool to touch. Noise level is very low (think a white noise sound machine on a very low setting). Generates no noticeable heat signature and requires no external cooling or air movement.
All 12 Raspberry Pi's are peers relaying & confirming Lynx blockchain transactions on the global network and all 12 are also mining for blocks. The Pi 3 are not as powerful as the Pi 4, so they are tuned down to use 25% CPU. The Pi 3's are ideal for network confirmations and peer relay services. Each Pi 3 is mining at ~260Hash/second and win about 1 block per week on average. Each Pi 4 is tuned at 70% CPU capacity and output ~3,300Hash/second and average about 1.5 blocks per day.
The video provides close up access to the power consumption meters on each USB power hub. Consider that 3 alternate Pi's in each stack use GPIO's to power the fans, which consumes slightly more electricity.
