In this video, We share the 10 Interesting Facts that You Probably Didn't Know About South Sudan (The Land of Giants).
South Sudan has a population of 14 million people with a median age of 18 years. Its capital city is JUBA and it's growing rapidly.
The 10 Interesting Facts include;
1. South Sudan is the youngest country in the world. It gained independence from Sudan in 2011 after a bloody civil war.
2. Land Of Giants. South Sudan is blessed with the Tallest people in the world. The Dinka tribe has got the tallest people in the entire world.
3. Diversity in culture. South Sudan is a multi-lingual nation with very many cultures. They're as follows; Dinka (Jieng) 35.8%, Nuer (Naath) 15.6%, Shilluk (Chollo), Azande, Bari, Kakwa, Kuku, Murle, Mandari, Didinga, Ndogo, Bviri, Lndi, Anuak, Bongo, Lango, Dungotona, Acholi, Baka, etc.
4. South Sudan has extensive oil fields that form the basis of the country’s economy. But since the country is landlocked, it runs almost all of its pipelines through Sudan. After a 2012 dispute with Sudan, there is a temporary suspension in production of oil which has shaken the economy.
5. Most people in the country reside in rural areas and live on less than a dollar a day. People live in thatched-roofed houses located in areas with poor sanitation. Eighty percent of the population has no access to any toilet facility.
6. In South Sudan, the wealth is measured by the number of cattle that each family owns. It is also common to pay a man in cattle for the opportunity to marry his daughter should there be several men competing for her.
7. The dominant religions in the country are Christianity and Islam. Many of the country's nationals at least bear either a Christian or Moslem first name.
8. Communal meal-sharing is a common practice among most of the communities in the country. People prefer to live in close proximity to their families and relatives.
9. South Sudan is also blessed with the Most Dark-skinned people in the world. The Dinka tribe are known as the melanin kings and queens.
10. South Sudanese prefer oral communication to writing and other means. Oral communication is what is used to pass down information from the elders to the young generation.
