Christmas traditions in Finland | Family holiday | Finnish countryside

Christmas in Finland is a very special time. It is full of lights, delicious root casseroles, baked good, presents, sauna and family time.

Visiting graveyard is very important for Finns. If you going to celebrate Christmas in Finland, go there during the night. It is very heart touching experience. The dark graveyard is lit with candle lights as a symbol that everyone is remembered on this day.

Christmas in Finland would no be complete without Finnish sauna! It is a must do in many Finnish families. Some people go in the morning and some go at night.

There should be a separate video about all the traditional Christmas treats.
Here you can see how to bake Finnish traditional cookies and tarts.

Every Finnish household hopes for snow on Christmas. In the central and northern Finland there is usually snow for Christmas, but on the coastal part not so often.
We have traveled north from Helsinki to celebrate Christmas with our family and experienced real miracle. During Christmas night finally came snow! Just couple of cm but it was enough to make a snowman and have fun.
I was editing our Christmas video in the Library Oodi. More about it you can find here
